Rob Nusbaum and Bill Whitford, EuroAmerica Design
Q: Where did you visit during your trip to Europe?
A: We went to Europe to meet with our manufactures based in Italy and Germany. In Italy we met with Guilio Botteon, Export Manager for bathroom manufacturer, Cerasa as well as Christian Pusca, Export Director at Val Design, one of Italy’s leading Italian kitchen manufacturers. In Germany we toured the facilities at wardrobe and furniture manufacturer Hülsta with export director Jutta Feldkamp. We also visited with Warendorf CEO, Manfred Van Ginkle, who showed us how their innovative products are made.
It never ceases to amaze me how vast and high tech all of the manufacturing equipment is. We had a great time seeing all of the facilities first hand.
Q: What were some of your experiences in Italy?
A: We were able to visit the company showrooms and production facilities, and they were absolutely state-of-the-art. Both the Val Design and Cerasa facilities are about an hour outside of Venice, just 15 minutes away from each other, so we stayed locally and enjoyed the culture that those manufacturers thrive in.
The beauty of the Italian manufactures is the integration between new technology and old world craftsmanship. Their factories are completely automated, then each product is finished by hand. When the product is ready to be finished, it is sent to a room of experts to be checked for flawless craftsmanship; it is the closest thing you can get to perfection in home furnishing products.
Cerasa had a beautiful showroom, full of new and interesting pieces, such as their MOON series for powder rooms. They are always at the head of design which is partly due to their incredible manufacturing facilities.
The Val Design factory was about the size of three footballs fields and almost completely automated; just four people oversee equipment that puts out thousands of products every day.
Q: What stood out from your visit to Germany?
A: The German’s forte is their engineering. For example, Warendorf has a patented design for a carcass, that is nearly indestructible; instead of being made of four separate pieces, it is just one piece folded over on itself. They also have their own special seal to keep kitchen cabinets virtually dust free and completely waterproof.
When we visited Hülsta, they had a huge two-floor showroom for all the products that they make. They sell functional products at various price points to fit many types of homes. They have many options available and they offer to mix and match variables for each impeccably designed home furnishing.
Both Warendorf and Hülsta are able to make completely customized orders for customers. Not only can people choose colors and finishes, but they cam make custom product sizes and layouts as well. The manufacturers are able to do this because they have a vigorous quality control process. They will check every batch of products and if one thing is off or incorrect, they get rid of the entire batch and start over. They ensure the quality of their products with expert precision and inspection of each and every item they manufacture.
Here at EuroAmerica our design process focuses on a life style we want to provide for the customer, that is why we choose manufacturers that are focused on creating the best possible products, every single time. We are excited to bring all of the innovative designs and smart engineering to the United States from all of our European manufacturers.
